Under Pressure: A Revolutionary Training Program for Journalists

D5 Studio's Innovative Simulation Program Prepares Journalists for Crisis Reporting

In a world where natural disasters are a frequent occurrence, journalists are often on the frontlines of reporting these events. Recognizing the need for specialized training, D5 Studio has created Under Pressure, a unique simulation training program designed to prepare journalists for crisis situations.

Under Pressure stands out from other training programs due to its focus on real-life scenarios. The program provides modules based on actual natural disasters and emergencies that have occurred in the Philippines, testing journalists' reportage and decision-making skills in high-pressure situations. Upon completion of tasks, journalists are provided with supplementary videos and modules to further their training.

The technology behind Under Pressure is as innovative as the concept itself. The first phase of the program is a responsive design website that fits any screen size and format. The website is designed for both functionality and interactivity, with video backgrounds providing visual context for the training modules. Users are asked to choose from several modules, each with tasks to be completed, providing a game-like experience.

The second phase of Under Pressure takes interactivity to the next level with the use of augmented and virtual reality technologies. Users are immersed in actual disaster or emergency scenarios, performing tasks using AR and VR technology. This heightened immersive experience aims to prepare journalists for the realities they may face in the field.

The development of Under Pressure was not without its challenges. One of the main hurdles was designing the website to aid in interactivity. The interface had to be engaging and informative, ensuring that the training module would be used by the intended audience. Additionally, the website had to host a lot of media, requiring careful planning and backend development to ensure a quick and seamless user experience.

Despite these challenges, Under Pressure has been recognized for its innovative approach to training. The project won first place in the Global Editors Network hackathon in July 2016 and will compete at the GEN Final in Vienna, Austria in June 2017. Furthermore, the program was awarded Silver in A' Education, Teaching Aid and Training Content Design Award in 2017, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
